Because of their architectural uniqueness, the Hastings net shops are listed as Grade II*. Since the early 1980s local historian Steve Peak has played a leading role in saving and restoring them. He owns one of the original net shops, built in 1835, which he preserves as a museum. Inside is a large collection of original fishing and marine artefacts many dating from pre-World War Two. The museum is not open very often, but today you can come inside and catch a glimpse of life in the days of sail (but not if it's raining!).
Admission free.
