Windmill

About

Discover hidden history inside the Stone Cross Windmill and see the flour mill work its magic.

This is an opportunity to support the never ending maintenance of this iconic Grade 11* listed building that still mills wholemeal flour using traditional methods from locally sourced wheat.

There will be a stall selling home-made jams, cakes and bread as well as an opportunity to purchase fine quality wholemeal flour recently milled in the Windmill.

Entry is free and visitors can tour the Windmill and see the signatures at the top of the Tower from Canadian soldiers who used the building as a gunnery position during the 2nd World War. For those that find the stairs to the top of the tower too difficult there is disabled access to ground floor heritage centre which contains details of the history of the Windmill and local area. The café is also accessible and provides refreshments with home-made cakes and scones. All money raised supports the future of the local Windmill, ensuring it remains open to the public and continues milling flour. The amateur radio station will also be in attendance hoping to make contact with windmills in Europe and further afield.
