About

A quintessentially English castle.

One of Britain’s most picturesque castles in the heart of a historic landscape. As was Sir Edward Dallingridge’s vision when he built the castle in 1385, the approach to the castle with towers rising majestically from the moat is awe inspiring. With spiral stairs, battlements, windows for loosing arrows and ruins where knights once roamed, Bodiam is a place where you can let your imagination run free.

Some of the best views in the county can be seen from the top of the towers and we are open all year round for you to enjoy the castle in all seasons.

The main tea-room and Castle View Café serve delicious lunches and a tempting selection of homemade cakes and treats. There is also a gift shop selling a range of castle-themed gifts and local produce and a second-hand bookshop to browse.

I support the work of the National Trust but it seems strange that they charge to enter the grounds if you walk in from the car park but if you follow the signed Weald pathway you can enter for free! Read full review

If you asked a child to draw a castle they would draw Bodiam. I took my 6 year old and her excitement was clear from the moment we drove up. It’s NT so the standard is very high. I felt like a big... Read full review

Really nice castle and well kept. Certainly makes sense to become NT member. So much fun climbing up the steep staircases, reading about their bats and medieval toilets :-) Read full review
