22nd June 2016

Categories: Latest News

Over 70 crazy golfers got serious last weekend at the World Crazy Golf Championships – with £4,500 prize money up for grabs.

Leicester’s Ed Pope led the way in the novice category with a score of 258 (6 over par), taking home the amateur title and £500 prize fund.

Ed was closely followed by Matt Bray, London, (+11) and Rupert Pilgrim, Bucks  (+15), who both won further cash prizes. In total eight of the 21 amateurs went home with prize money.

Britain’s number one, Michael Smith, won the world title - four strokes clear of British Minigolf Association (BMGA) chairman, Sean Homer. This is Michael’s fourth time to win the Championships, pocketing £1,000 prize money.

Simon Tompkins, manager of Hastings Adventure Golf, said: “Congratulations to all the winners. Next year we hope to welcome even more crazy golf enthusiasts to compete for the dedicated prize fund of £1,500 just for novices!

“So get those putters out and start practicing for 2017.”

This tournament has been held at Hastings Adventure Golf since 2003. For the first time in the World Crazy Golf Championships’ 14-year history there was a novice category with a £1,500 amateur prize pot.

The Crazy Golf Championships 2017 will take place in June.
