The George is temporarily closed due to a fire on 20th July 2019. Thankfully everyone was evacuated safely, and much of the beautiful historic building remains intact. However, the firefighting resulted in water damage to the restaurant, ballrooms and roof. Alex, Katie and the team are working hard to get The George back up and running and are determined to re-emerge even better than before.
The George in Rye
The menu at The George has Mediterranean influences and food is presented simply with lavish respect for fresh and seasonal ingredients, sourced from the local farms around Rye, Sussex and Kent. Much of the fish and seafood is freshly caught by the trawlers of Rye Bay.
The George Tap
The pub serves real ales, draught cider and continental beers. There is also a wide selection of wines by the glass and a healthy representation from local vineyards in East Sussex and Kent. Smoking is permitted outside in the Courtyard Garden which is open throughout the day and evening. There are gas heaters available.
Benson Room
Exclusive private dining experience on offer for 10-35 guests. The menus reflect both the seasonality and availability of ingredients on offer from the local farms and fisherman around Rye and Sussex. The room is also equipped with a projector and surround sound for film screenings.
