The Winter Giant
February 22, 2021

In 2017 the Festival launched with a spectacular outdoor show called the Winter Giant. Told through large-scale puppetry, live and pre-recorded music, combined with professional and community performance, this heartwarming experience brought everyone in the community together for a unique and truly memorable experience.

The Winter Giant told the story of anyone who has ever been lost or looking for shelter. It speaks of our common humanity, of the importance of a community that welcomes everyone, and of the desire amongst all humans to live in a safe, warm place.

More than 400 children took part in lantern-making workshops at local schools and community groups. As part of the workshops, each child inscribed their home-shaped lantern with a message for John the giant.
