Welcome To Historic 1066 Country

Hastings & 1066 Country is home to some of Sussex’s finest coast and countryside including the famous historic site on which the Battle of Hastings was fought. The amazing town of Hastings is home to Europe’s largest beach-launched fishing fleet, which is celebrated every year in the town’s three fish festivals. Bexhill is home to the striking modernist De La Warr Pavilion, which can be found on the charming seafront. Further west Pevensey has a castle that was once a Roman Fort, and a unique courthouse museum.

Rural 1066 Country is perfect for both intrepid ramblers and casual walkers, sprinkled with gems from the moated wonders of Bodiam Castle and Herstmonceux Castle to Rudyard Kipling’s former home Bateman’s and the exquisite gardens at Great Dixter, Pashley Manor and Merriments. Rye, the home of Henry James, offers a spectacular nature reserve, museums and art galleries. Nearby Camber offers spectacular golden sand dunes over two miles of beach.

Throughout Hastings & 1066 Country there is a full, year-round events programme with festivals and celebrations for all seasons.
