Hastings Herring Fair

About

Sea shanty-fuelled festival where you can discover more about this undervalued but versatile fish, herring.

Celebrating the Silver Darlings of the sea, Hastings Herring Fair will combine food stalls and cookery demonstrations with live music, and local beers, wines and ciders – all inside a marquee on the Stade (adjacent to the fishing beach and the Hastings Contemporary art gallery).

The Hastings fishing fleet have been catching herring off local shores since at least the 1600s, when records began. Come and celebrate the undervalued ‘silver darlings of the sea’ in its many wondrous forms, from bloaters to buckling and kippers, and other seasonal fish.

As well as delicious fish dishes, stalls will be selling various local produce, wines, ciders, hot food, vegetarian options and other delights. There will also be a beer to delight every palate.
