The Jerwood Gallery is the new public home for the Jerwood Foundation’s Collection of 20th and 21st century British art, including works by artists such as Sir Stanley Spencer, Lawrence Stephen Lowry, and Augustus John, on display to the public for the first time. Alongside the Collection, the Gallery runs a temporary exhibition programme, which showcases the best of contemporary British art. The programme changes on a regular basis so be sure to check the Jerwood Gallery website to see what’s on.
Nestling between the fishing beach and Hastings’ Old Town, the gallery has been sensitively and intuitively designed to complement the surrounding environment. The exterior is clad in over 8000 black ceramic tiles, hand-glazed a few miles away in Kent, which reflect the changing seaside light.
The gallery café, Webbes at Jerwood boasts a lovey sun terrace and fantastic views over Hastings and the fishing beach. It is the perfect place to enjoy brunch, lunch or tea after exploring what the gallery has to offer.
