Renowned for its magnificent moated castle and set in beautiful parkland and superb Elizabethan gardens, Herstmonceux has never had any trouble attracting attention.

Built originally as a country home in the mid-15th century, the castle is rich with classical elements, its straight lines and formal structure typical of the Renaissance emphasis on rational clarity.

In the neat folds and carefully arranged windows, there is symmetry and order - a conscious step away from the haphazard proportions and irregular gabled façades of the medieval period.
