Despite a Travel Mole report last week to the contrary, hotels in the South East are gearing up to welcome visitors planning to visit the London 2012 Olympic Games, and 1066 Country is very much open for business.
While interest in accommodation brochures has soared over the last two months, there are still plenty of bed spaces available in the region to take the pressure off the capital. Hoteliers in 1066 Country say that they welcome enquiries from prospective 2012 visitors and will be happy to provide quotes and reservations ahead of the Games.
The Olympic Games are indeed generating extra interest in 1066 Country. While our hoteliers are not yet recording full occupancy, there have been reports of increased interest in self catering properties for 2012, with some advanced booking already taking place for the two weeks games’ period in July and August.
Situated in East Sussex as they are, 1066 Country towns have some of the quickest transport links to Stratford International, which can be reached in 95 minutes from Hastings and only 73 minutes from Rye! This cuts out the time, expense and inconvenience involved in crossing London to get to the Olympic venues. London Charing Cross can be reached in 75 minutes from Battle.
Chairman of the Hastings & St Leonards Hotels & Tourism Association, James Norris said: ‘Hastings’ hotels still have a large variety of accommodation available during next year's Olympic Games’ period, most of which are at much lower rates than those of our London competitors.
Hastings is just over one hour’s drive from the Channel Tunnel and the ports of Dover & Newhaven, there’s a direct train line from Gatwick Airport and a very straightforward and speedy rail journey to Stratford International. Hastings, with all of its history and attractions, is the ideal place to stay whilst attending the games’.
