May Day Procession
In 2009 the Festival begins on 01 May and continues over the weekend with the climactic May Day procession being by far the most popular event.
The red trail on this map shows the route Jack takes, dancing his way to another untimely death on Monday 04 May 2009!
9.45am The Morris sides, the Bogies, the Sweeps and a host of other characters gather at the Net Huts in Rock-a-nore Road.
10.15am The Jack is released and the procession begins!
11.15am - 12 midday The Procession proceeds up All Saints Street, then down the High Street to George Street where the Procession pauses for dancing and refreshments.
11.45am The Procession reforms as 11.45am and restarts at 12noon.
The Procession proceeds down to the Seafront, along to Wellington Square, up Castle Hill Road and across to the castle.
12.30pm The Jack arrives in Hastings Castle. Admission £3 adults; £1 children.
12.45pm Morris Dancing and a Craft Fair on Ladies Parlour.
3.30pm The Jack is slain and the spirit of the Summer is released for another year.
