Old Town Festival and Carnival

Please note that next year's Festival will take place between Saturday 31 July and Sunday 08 August 2010.

This fortnight of festivities celebrates its 40th anniversary this year with everything from a free beach concert to a spectacular carnival.

Saturday 01 August

10.30am: Tug-o-war outside Lifeboat Station

12noon: Old Town Carnival Week Grand Opening Ceremony, Winkle Island.

7.30pm: Twilight Smugglers Walk, meet at Shipwreck and Coastal Heritage Centre

Midnight: Historic Old Town Ghost Walk, meet at Swan Gardens

Sunday 02 August:

11am: The Famous Back Passages Tour, meet at Swan Gardens

2pm: Foyles Walk, meet at Shipwreck and Coastal Heritage Centre

2pm - 8pm: Hastings Free Beach Concert

2pm - 4pm: Fun on the Churchyard Steps, St Clements Church, High Street

4pm: Old Town Criers Competition, St Clements Churchyard Steps, High Street

Monday 03 August:

2.30pm - 5pm: Organic Cream Tea, garden of 106 High Street

5.30pm: Seaboot Race, Courthouse Street

6.30pm: Old Town Treasure Trail, register at Winkle Island

Tuesday 04 August:

11am - 2pm: Hastings Lifeboat Station Open Day.

5.30pm: Bike Race, Crown Lane

Wednesday 05 August:

7pm - 10pm: Old Town Chess Challenge, All Saints Hall, All Saints Street.

7.30pm: Pram Race.

Thursday 06 August:

5pm - 8pm: First Thursday - Art Trail

5.30pm: Children's Fancy Dance, St Clements Church, High Street

7pm - 11pm: High Street Party, High Street and Brewery Yard.  Starring this year is Fiona Harrison, Britain's finest professional 1940s entertainer and WWII sing-along.  Food court.  Continuous entertainment with three bands.

7pm - 11pm: FILO Beer Festival, High Street.  Celebration of locally brewed beers with many other classic real ales to delight the palate!

Friday 07 August:

From 11am: Pirate Day in the Old Town.  Come dressed as a pirate for treasure hunts, music and lots more!

2pm: Pirates Procession - from Blue Reef Aquarium, have your photo taken with a pirate!

4pm - 7.30pm: Piratical Barbecue, Hastings Motor Boat and Yacht Club, Rock-a-Nore

8pm: Pirate Songs and Sea Shanties, The Stag, All Saints Street

Saturday 08 August:

From 3.30pm: Aerial display - watch out for it over the sea between the town centre and Rock-a-Nore.

5pm: Grand Carnival Procession.

9pm: Fireworks from Hastings Castle, visible from the seafront

Sunday 09 August:

10am: The 'Happy Harold' Haul, Lifeboat House.  Teams from local pubs and associations compete to pull a 1928 Hastings and District Trolley Bus.  After the haul, Happy Harold will be giving trips along the seafront.

11am: Jazz Breakfast at St Mary in the Castle with Herbie Flowers and Mike Hatchard
