Stone Cross Mill

Stone Cross Mill was built in the late 1800s for Samuel Dallaway and remained in the family until the early 1960s.  At the time of its building, the machinery within the Mill was the most up to date of any Mill in Sussex.
It last milled in the late 1930s and during the last war it was taken over by the military as an observation post - the view from the top of the Mill is excellent.  In the fifties, the Mill was granted Grade 2 Listed Building status and in the early 1990s, with the help of various authorities and local people, a Trust was formed with the intention of restoring the Mill for future generations.  After a National Heritage Lottery grant, the sweeps of the Mill turned once again in 2000 and flour was milled for the first time in more than 60 years.
